Shortly after 17:00 hours on Tuesday Walworth County Dispatch reported that the home next to 196 Martin was on fire. Members responding to the station gave initial radio reports of flames and moderate smoke showing from the upstairs unit of the duplex. Chiefs Ruosch and Rambatt arrived on scene and reported a fast moving fire spreading quickly. Engine 22 was instructed to make an attack with tank water and Engine 20 to secure water supply from a hydrant. MABAS Box 40-2 was pulled for additional resources.
On arrival of the first engine, heavy fire was showing from the A and D sides of the building. Engine 22's crew deployed two handlines and made an aggressive exterior attack knocking down the majority of the flames and then moved up the stairs to make an interior attack. After water supply was secured to Engine 22, Engine 20 moved to the Pearl St. side of the structure and deployed a crew to vent the roof of the structure and ladders to the second floor of the building.
The fire was controlled within minutes of arrival and box alarm companies assisted with overhaul of the structure and securing the scene.
Thanks to Darien, Walworth, City of Delavan, Harvard and Clinton Fire Departments for there assistance. Special thanks to Racine Fire Bells for rehab assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Sharon Police Department and Walworth County Fire Investigation Task Force.
