Barn BBQ on the Border!
Sat. May 8th 2010

At 18:55 Sharon Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a reported Barn Fire in the area of the McHenry County Line on Stateline Road. Clinton and Darien FD were dispatched for automatic aid with Engines and Tenders.

AC Rambatt went enroute and soon found no fire at that location. At that time DC Vander Veen was at Martin St. and Stateline and reported a large volume of smoke west of Sharon on Stateline Road. All units were redirected to respond to Stateline Road west of Sharon.

DC VanderVeen arrived on scene at 12510 East Stateline Road to find a fully engulfed 40 x 100 foot two story wood frame barn with a high probability of fire spread to several structures included two homes and another large barn. Due to the high risk of exposures MABAS Box 40-4 was pulled to the box level bringing assistance from Boone FPD 1 & 3, Harvard FPD.

Command was established and Engine 22 was directed to pull up the drive and deploy to handlines to the exposures. Crews quickly protected the exposures and soon a 3 inch blitz attack line was deployed to the A- Alpha side of the structure. All lines flowing CAFS quickly contained the fire to the building of origin.

Clinton FPD arrived and established a secondary water supply and command was tranferred to Clinton 401 ( as the fire was within CFD response area). The box was struck our at 19:32 with all companies to still respond to the scene. Crews overhauled the structure and all units were clear of the scene just after 21:00.

There were no injuries and the loss included the structure, 4 vehicles, 1 tractor and numerous shop tools and welders. The cause is undetermined at this time.
